Winners of 2 awards at the 2007 Glasswerk New Music Awards, Smith6079 released their official debut CD single on Rocksector Records 5th November 2007. "Kill Romeo" is destined to be an absolute classic....“A Collection of cast-iron 21st Century anthems” is how the International Music Review described Smith 6079’s demo recordings. And it’s hard not to agree with them. Martin Elbourne, Chief band booker for the Glastonbury Festival certainly did. He chose the Manchester indie-rockers from more than 400 unsigned bands from across the world to appear on the main stage at the JerseyLive Festival in September 2007 and said there was no unsigned act in the UK to touch Smith 6079. That's why Rocksector were quick to sign the band when the opportunity arose. Formed in May 2005 in South Manchester, it’s been a rapid rise for the five-piece rock band. They locked themselves away in their own studio and didn’t emerge for four months. But they had captured 20 of the most stunning rock songs on tape and called the collection ‘Therapy’. Then the buzz started. And as with all good things it started small. One MP3 was dispatched to a few carefully chosen record company execs. The track – ‘Damn (The Music)’ - certainly hit home. The phones never stopped ringing. ‘We want more and we want to see the band live’ was the overwhelming theme. “Think Kasabian meets T-Rex at a Zeppelin gig” was how The Indie Times reacted to the album. High praise but not undeserved. “Smith 6079 have stoked a musical fire that may just burn down the world” was what BBC Online’s head of music Chris Long said. “The most exciting band I have heard since the Sex Pistols.” Said Ray Cooper, former President of Virgin Records USA. Smith 6079 – the band name is taken from the ‘moniker’ given to main character Winston Smith in George Orwell’s classic 1984 – are on the verge of big things. Ray Cooper – the man responsible for giving us The Verve and U2 among others, said of the band: “When I heard Smith 6079’s demo I was absolutely knocked out. They reminded me of the Sex Pistols in their early days – not in the way they sounded but in the energy and passion they put into their songs. “After hearing the demo I felt compelled to fly over from Los Angeles to Manchester to see them perform. Live, they were just incredible. Bands don’t get much better than this – at any level.” Smith 6079 take their inspiration from 70s guitar riffs and bring them screaming into the Noughties with contemporary hooks and the kind of huge instantly memorable choruses favoured by luminaries like Kasabian, Killers and Marilyn Manson. Live, the band has already headlined at The Garage in London, sold out the Academy 3 in Manchester and had fans queuing round the block to see their gig at the legendary Dublin Castle in Camden Town. In October 2007 the band scooped two awards at the Glasswerk New Music Awards : Best Video & Best New Band(industry panel vote).

Disappointingly, early in 2009 the band decided to split after musical differences between the band members failed to be resolved.
